Some people use Bing as their default search engine on their computer. This can be a problem because it can be difficult to find information if you only use Bing. To change this, you can modify some settings in the registry. In this article, I’ll show you how to do this.

If the registry editor is not enabled on your computer, make sure to check out my previous post on how to re-enable the registry editor. It’s worth noting that the registry keys we will be altering are not critical to the system and therefore if you mess something up, there should be no negative consequences.

If you’re having trouble backing up your registry, make sure to read my post on how to backup and restore your registry first. The procedure is a bit technical, but if you follow along slowly, it’s not too hard. I tested this on Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10 and it worked on all three operating systems.

Edit SearchScopes for IE in Registry

To create a new search scope in IE, follow these steps:

  1. Open the registry by clicking on the Start button and typing “regedit” into the search box.
  2. Navigate to the following key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchScopes 3. Right-click on the SearchScopes key and select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value 4. Name your new DWORD value “DefaultScope”. 5. Double-click on DefaultScope to open its properties window. 6. In the DefaultScope property window, set its value to 1 7. Close regedit by clicking on the OK button ..

Now we have to convert this to uppercase because the registry is finicky about the case when creating keys. The easiest way to do this is to open Word, paste the text, select it and then choose UPPERCASE.

If you click on the DefaultScope key, you’ll see a few options on the right hand side. The first is called “DefaultScope.” Double-click on that to set a new default scope for your project. The second is called “NewScope.” Click on that to create a new default scope for your project.

Configuring the default search scope for a project is a important step in ensuring that your search results are as relevant as possible. To do this, we need to create a new search scope.

Enter the following into the new key field: SearchScopes: . This will add a new search scope to your search.

[GUID] [Key]

Now, in the right pane, select the Default key and press enter. You’ll see a new search scope appear with all of your old data in it. Now, we have to add some new data to this search scope. So first, select the new search scope and you’ll see there is only one key called New Data. In the right pane, select the New Data key and press enter. You’ll see a new search scope appear with all of your new data in it. Now, we have to add some new keywords to this search scope. So first, select the new searchscope and you’ll see there is only one key called Keywords. In the right pane, select the Keywords key and press enter. You’ll see a list of all of your current keywords in this searchscope.

To create a new key, just right-click in any white area in the right-pane and choose New and then pick String Value for the first key.

To give your new key a display name, type in DisplayName and press Enter. Then double-click on the new key and you can enter the value information. Type in Google in the value data box and click OK. ..

If you’re having trouble opening Internet Explorer, try changing your search provider.

Now when you type something into the address bar, it should give you search suggestions and should search using Google when you press Enter.

If something didn’t work properly, make sure to check all the keys properly and that the GUID is the same for DefaultScope and for the name of the key under SearchScopes. Also, make sure the GUID has the opening curly and closing curly brackets in both instances. ..
